One of the simplest ways to facilitate the healthy movement of chi through your body is to breathe deeply, fully, and rhythmically. Most of us, however, inhale shallowly and don't exhale completely. When we are upset or under stress, we may hold our breath or take many short, irregular breaths. Become conscious of the way you breathe and, if necessary, adjust your breathing patterns. When you inhale, fill your lungs and allow your chest and abdomen to expand. When you exhale, dispel as much air as possible from your lungs. Proper breathing increases the amount of oxygen in your bloodstream and improves circulation. Slow, deep, rhythmic breathing also relieves tension and can help you stay calm under pressure.
