Acupuncture and Chinese medicine started some 5000 years ago - a time when people lived closer to nature and the changing seasons, and are more in harmony than we were today.

What's the difference between the Western medicine and Chinese medicine?
This can be illustrated with this story - "the blind men and the elephant":

Once there was an elephant in town. Some blind men took turn to touch the animal. The one who touched the tusk said it was like a carrot. The next touched its ear and said it was a fan. The third touch its foot and said it was a pillar. The fourth touched its belly and said it was a tub. The last one touched its tail and said it was a rope.
You see, if we suppose the elephant is the human body and the blind men are the medical experts making diagnosis.
Each of these specialists has an excellent and detailed understanding of his own areas of the elephant, but they may not see the whole picture. Generally, that's how the Western medicine work. A geneticist, an oncologist, and a psychiatrist might have different views on the cause of diseases - but they might even all be correct.
The Chinese medicine, is one who sees the elephant from a distance. His view is not detailed or even always correct. But there is always something that one can use to prescript a treatment, when he is able to see the elephant as a whole animal interacting with the environment. Each medical traditions has its own strong points and shortcoming.
A quick fix doesn't have to mean popping pills - you can use natural healing methods to thrive in this modern world.
